Areas of Law / Crime

A year ago I was mugged by a couple who stole my bag containing my pension and bank books, some gold rings and over £100 in cash. The thieves were caught and pleaded guilty, but I’’ve been told I won’t be compensated. Is there anything I can do?

If you were injured in the mugging incident you may be able to obtain compensation from the state. See a solicitor or the Citizens Advice Bureau if this was the case. You would normally discuss the possibility of a compensation order with the prosecution before the case comes to court. However the defendants probably had no money so this may have been ruled out. That would effectively have ruled out the possibility of suing them personally for compensation as well. You may be able to claim on your domestic insurance.
