Areas of Law / Wills and Probate

Before he died three years ago my father told me he held a bank account for me. My half sister now holds the bank book, but she ignores my letters when I ask her about it. Is there any way I can find out about my legal rights?

Although you say the bank account was for you, it sounds as though it was in your father’s name. In that case it will have formed part of his estate and should have been distributed when he died, either to you in his will or among his family (including yourself) if no special mention of the bank account was made in his will. You will have to start by looking at the will, assuming he made one, and discuss the matter with whoever sorted out your father’s affairs when he died.
