Areas of Law / Employment

We spend the majority of our lives at work – so when something goes wrong in the workplace, or you think you have been unfairly treated, you need expert legal advice at the earliest opportunity to ensure that your rights are protected.

Employment law is very fast moving and complicated, and very few people have a clear idea of their rights at work. Our employment lawyers can advise on a wide range of work related matters including;

  • Bullying at work
  • Discrimination
  • Pay Disputes
  • Redundancy
  • Unfair dismissal

Our employment lawyers can also offer advice on the nicer side of employment law, such as helping you negotiate your contract for that dream job.

Employment Questions

I won my case at an employment tribunal. The date on which I should have received my money has now gone, and I believe the company I used to work for has put in an appeal. What steps can I take now, other than going to the County Court?

I have worked for a security firm for just under a year earning an average of £230 a week but when I took ten days’ holiday recently I was paid the equivalent of £146 a week. How can I get this sorted out?

My wife worked for a firm for 20 years. She went on sick leave in May 2013 and never went back. She never formally left, and received her P60 for the tax year to 5th April 2015. We’ve discovered that the company closed down last year. Is she entitled to a redundancy payment? We wrote to the receivers two months ago, but haven’t received a reply.

I’ve worked for a charity for eight years. The new manager says we are no longer entitled to sick pay, and is talking of stopping our fortnight’s leave at Christmas. We do have contracts of employment, so where do we stand?

I worked in the asbestos industry for 14 years between 1966 and 1980 and as a result developed a lung condition. I put in a claim for compensation and I’ve been offered £6,000, but my solicitor says it’s not enough; what should I ask for?

The firm we worked for lost the cleaning contract for a building in the town centre, so we now work for the firm that took over. This firm’s employees all get 31 days’ paid leave, while we only get 28. Is that legal?

I have been given an untruthful reference by my current employer do I have to go through the internal grievance procedure before taking civil action or is that only the case with a employment tribunal?

One of the girls I work with tells me that a senior member of staff made several improper advances towards her in his office. I don’t feel I can just ignore this, but there’s going to be trouble whatever I do.

Recently the MD told junior management at our firm that if we are off work for whatever reason we may not get the full pay we have always received. He wants us to report to him when returning to work from illness, when he will decide whether we’re entitled to full pay or not. Can he do this? There’s nothing about this in our contracts.
