Employment Questions

I work for a builders’ merchant who employs about a dozen people. We only have four weeks’ paid leave a year, although some of us have worked for the firm for more than ten years. We were told they cannot afford to give us more, and that we have Bank Holidays anyway.

I’m told we’re not now entitled to any further paid holiday until after September, because the firm’s holiday year runs October to October. I don’t believe we’re getting our full holiday entitlement; who can I complain to?

A relative has made numerous anonymous allegations about me to my employers, the Department for Work and Pensions and now Social Services. Each time I have proved my innocence, but it has left a sour taste where I work. I don’t want to get involved in a slander case, but is there anything I can do to stop her doing this?

I read an article about holiday entitlements for employees. It stated we were entitled to 5.6 weeks’ holiday, or 28 days if we work a five-day week. My employer says they can take eight days off that for bank holidays, including Christmas and New Year. Are they allowed to do this?
