Property Questions

I have bought a house with a shared driveway and garage, however the shared land has been registered in my sole name by mistake. They’’re now requesting it back, but I wondered whether I’’m allowed to keep it?

I live in a terraced house where the property next door has remained empty for 20 years. I know who owns it, but he won’’t do anything with it.

I have applied to buy my council house, but the property has been suffering from subsidence. The council surveyor inspected the house about a year ago and I asked for a copy of his report, but I’’ve now been told I’’m not entitled to see it.

Residents living on our private, unadopted road are constantly plagued by other people’s cars, for example students from the nearby halls of residence or visitors to the chip shop on the end. Notices stating that it’’s a private road and that parking is for residents only are completely ignored. What can we do?

I am selling my house and have already had an offer. Do I have to employ a solicitor? The prospective buyer is going to.

I was walking my dog through some woodland when it became caught up in some rusty barbed wire that was hanging loose. I’d like to get this barbed wire cleared up but I’m having difficulty identifying who owns the land.

My daughter’s next door neighbour has put a padlocked gate across the access road at the back of her house which she bought from the council two years ago. The neighbour has given keys to the owners of the houses further down the lane who are directly affected, but it means workmen, window cleaners and the like can’’t get through.

I need to find out who owns an unoccupied property nearby, but I find it’’s not registered at the Land Registry. I have contacted the local authority to enquire who is responsible for council tax payments, but they say disclosure would be in breach of data protection. Is this correct? Where do I go from here?

I want to buy the freehold to my house. My understanding is that after five years of paying ground rent the landowner is legally bound to sell me the freehold for a maximum of ten years’ ground rent. Is this true?
