Areas of Law / Divorce and Family

My daughter is about to file for divorce. She has been married for six years, and has no children. She is not sure how long the divorce will take: some people say two years, others five. Is there a legal time limit for a divorce?

The average time for a divorce to become absolute is between four and six months from the issue of a petition, irrespective of which route you take. However this will depend on how long it takes for the parties to agree any financial issues. The absence of any children in your daughter’s case will make the process less complicated.
