Areas of Law / Employment

I had a serious injury at work five months ago and was told I wouldn’t be fit for work again for up to two years. Now I’m being made redundant after 25 years with the firm. Can they just do that?

If the firm was in any way responsible for the accident you may be entitled to compensation. Discuss this with a solicitor. It’s possible that you could bring a claim for unfair dismissal, since if you work for a large firm it might be expected to keep your job open for you. However your redundancy package may work out better than any unfair dismissal compensation you might be awarded. Take your employment contract with you when you see the solicitor about your accident.
