Areas of Law / Employment

I’m told we’re not now entitled to any further paid holiday until after September, because the firm’s holiday year runs October to October. I don’t believe we’re getting our full holiday entitlement; who can I complain to?

The statutory minimum holiday allowance currently is 5.6 weeks, or 28 days (including bank holidays if you’re not required to work on bank holidays) for those working a five day week. If you’re getting less paid holiday you should raise a grievance and suggest your employer contacts ACAS (0300 123 1100) for guidance. If you’ve already taken 28 days’ leave since last October you’re not entitled to more unless your employment contract says so. Many people who think they’re short-changed on their holidays forget to take public or bank holidays into account, or work less than a five day week.
