Areas of Law / Wills and Probate

My fiancé and I have lived together for seven years. Unfortunately he has been seriously ill and we haven’t been able to marry. He says he has changed his will to leave me everything, but I haven’t seen a copy and now his daughter is demanding to see it. Does she have a right to see it? It’s possible there is no will after all.

If you get married any will he has made would automatically be cancelled. Your fiancé should make another one “in contemplation of marriage”. Since you have lived together for more than two years you will have a claim on his estate if he dies. But it could be expensive to establish this, and it will set you against your fiancé’s family. I am sure this is not what he would wish. The situation needs urgent attention.
