Areas of Law / General Legal Advice

My neighbour has put a camera on the side of his house pointing directly at my back door, and there’’s also more electrical equipment round the front. I now hate going out because I feel I’’m constantly being watched and visitors to my house are monitored. The worry of it is actually affecting my health.

This is difficult, because domestic use of CCTV cameras isn’’t regulated. Business use comes under the Data Protection Act. The best answer currently is to discuss this with your neighbour if you can, or grow a tall plant in front of the camera if you can’’t. Use of cameras in this way could potentially be construed as harassment, the definition of which is “causing alarm or distress” under the Protection from Harassment Act so you could have a word with the police about your concerns.
