Areas of Law / Property

My neighbour next door has attached his fencing panels on to our posts and fastened a gate to one of them as well. He didn’t ask our permission. Is there anything we can do about it?

Technically fastening things to your property can amount to criminal damage. It’s possible that hanging a gate on a fence post that wasn’t designed to carry it will cause it to fall over, so you could warn your neighbour that you will hold him responsible for repairing it if it does. However it’s best not to fall out with neighbours if it can be avoided. You could remove your fence panels if you wish and enjoy the extra strip of garden.
