Areas of Law / Property

A new building is going up behind us. We’re worried that the vibration from all the machinery could damage our house. We’ve had things moving about on tables and neighbours say pictures and mirrors have fallen off their walls. I wrote to the building firm a month ago and haven’t even had a reply.

If you mentioned your fears about potential damage to your property in your letter you will be in a stronger position to claim compensation should damage actually occur. In the event that cracks start appearing I suggest you contact your buildings insurers and let them battle it out. You may be able to win some compensation for the disturbance: I suggest you form a residents’ committee and approach a solicitor with a view to making a joint claim.
