Areas of Law / Debt matter

Since my wife and I split up last year she has been using her position with a finance company to find out how I am managing financially. She tells me she has contacted the credit reference agencies to find out if I have paid off a debt, presumably in the hope that our joint creditors will come after me, not her. Is this illegal?

If your wife is still on the electoral roll as living at your address she is entitled to contact the credit reference agencies for her own credit report. This will show up any joint debts you have. A finance company would not be able to view your credit report without your permission. You should see a solicitor specialising in matrimonial work to sort out your joint finances.
