Areas of Law / Divorce and Family

My son and his wife were only married seven months when she moved out. He was left with debts of several thousand pounds, mainly for the purchase of her clothes. If he divorces her for unreasonable behaviour will she have any claim on his salary or his works pension?

After so short a marriage it’s unlikely that either will have a financial claim on the other. The couple can divorce without the court becoming involved in sorting out their finances, although your son would be wise to get his wife to sign a court document stating that she has no further claim on him. If she refused to do this the court would decide who was entitled to what. But under the circumstances it’s unlikely that it would decide she was entitled to maintenance.
