Areas of Law / Crime

What’s the law on Blue Badge holders parking on double yellow lines? We were reported by the police for parking on a main road while visiting a car boot sale. My wife has difficulty walking and the car parks were full, but it was a quiet Sunday morning in a rural area and I don’t feel we were causing an obstruction.

The Blue Badge Scheme allows holders to park on double yellow lines for three hours, but not where there are restrictions on loading and unloading, marked by yellow kerb dashes or signs on plates. However the guidance emphasises that the badge is “not a licence to park anywhere” and you can be fined if you park dangerously or inconvenience other road users. It will help your case if you take a photo of the scene.
