My Boxer dog cost £800 and had show potential until it was savaged by an Alsatian. My insurers paid the £700 vet’s bill, but my dog’s foot is permanently scarred. Do I have a claim against the Alsatian’s owner for my dog’s suffering and loss of future prospects?
Depending on the circumstances of the attack you may have been able to get the owner of the other dog to pay your vet’s bill. Even now the insurers could seek to recover from him the money they paid out to you. However for you to claim any more I think your Boxer would have to be a champion show dog already, and you would have to prove that the attack caused you financial loss, for example in stud fees. I don’t think your dog would be awarded compensation for its suffering.
