Areas of Law / Property

I bought my property in 2004. The ground rent has always been £25, but last year the company started charging me a £20 a year management fee on top of this. They say they can do this, and even backdate the management fee to 2004 if they wish. Do you think this is correct?

Whether or not they can charge an administration fee will depend on what’s written in your lease agreement. You should have a copy of this, but if not it’s probably worth obtaining one from the Land Registry. They could probably only backdate their fees six years, and they may very well not be entitled to charge you a fee at all.
