Areas of Law / Divorce and Family

I am, through marriage, named as the father on a child’s birth certificate, although there is some doubt whether the child really is mine. How would I go about applying for a blood test to settle the matter once and for all?

In order to prove beyond doubt whether or not you are the child’s father you would need DNA samples not just from yourself but also from the mother and child. You can make an application to the court for this to take place, but such tests are generally agreed between the parties and it’s seldom necessary for the court to make an order. The CSA may wish to instigate blood tests themselves. As far as maintenance is concerned you could still be held financially responsible if the child has been accepted as part of the family.
