Areas of Law / Personal Injury

Six weeks after my mother started a new job she fell down some stairs at work, breaking a bone in her foot. She was in plaster for six weeks, and has just undergone further painful surgery. After the accident her employer sacked her. Is there anything she can do about this?

I recommend your mother sees a solicitor specialising in personal injury cases straight away. It’s possible she will have a claim for compensation against her employer. As regards her dismissal however the employer was probably within his rights to sack her, with a week’s notice or pay in lieu, after such a short time in the job but she could be compensated for her loss of earnings through a successful personal injury claim.
