Areas of Law / Insurance law

We had a slight altercation in a supermarket car park when our shopping trolley ran into another customer’s vehicle. Who is responsible for paying for the damage: is it the supermarket, or will we have to pay for it through our home insurance?

In some circumstances a supermarket could be held responsible for damage caused by its trolleys, but in this case it would appear to be your negligence rather than the supermarket’s which resulted in the accident. On the face of it you must pay for the repairs, although it would be sensible to take a photograph of the damage and insist on a couple of estimates before agreeing to foot the bill. I would be surprised if your home insurance will cover this.
