I have been told that my house deeds can be stored free of charge at the Land Registry office. If this is correct, how would I go about it? I’m currently paying for them to be stored at the bank.
If your property is registered at the Land Registry it means that, in theory, all the information in your title deeds is now held on file there. In reality there may be important information in the deeds which the Land Registry has not recorded so you need to keep them safely, although home storage is good enough for most people. If your title isn’t registered it will be next time your house changes hands, but the Land Registry doesn’t have the facilities to store the deeds and if it isn’t registered you should keep them in a safe place in the meantime.
