Areas of Law / Property

A neighbouring property is vacant after the owner committed suicide. It seems nothing is being done to dispose of it and it’s becoming derelict and a possible target for thieves. Is there anyone who could take it over?

Your best bet is to contact any relatives of the deceased if you know who they are. Failing that the local authority has powers to take over empty properties and rent them out. If the owner had no relatives then the Treasury Solicitor will eventually administer the deceased’s estate, including selling the property, with the proceeds going to the Crown.
