Areas of Law / Employment

We spend the majority of our lives at work – so when something goes wrong in the workplace, or you think you have been unfairly treated, you need expert legal advice at the earliest opportunity to ensure that your rights are protected.

Employment law is very fast moving and complicated, and very few people have a clear idea of their rights at work. Our employment lawyers can advise on a wide range of work related matters including;

  • Bullying at work
  • Discrimination
  • Pay Disputes
  • Redundancy
  • Unfair dismissal

Our employment lawyers can also offer advice on the nicer side of employment law, such as helping you negotiate your contract for that dream job.

Employment Questions

I had an accident at work, injuring my back, and have been off for three months. Does the company have to provide a medical check-up, and within what timescale? Could I sue the company for my injuries?

I have an evening job doing ten hours’ office cleaning a week. I’ve worked for my employers for nearly 12 months, but they’re refusing me holiday pay. They say I’ve got it wrong and won’t be entitled to a holiday until June. Who can I contact to sort this out? The trouble is I may not be there much longer.

Does having a company-sponsored “personal injury plan” invalidate a claim against the company for industrial injury compensation, and if so, why?

The company I work for has been taken over, and the personnel manager has told us that our previous work contracts no longer apply. However the new company has not yet negotiated new contracts. Is the personnel manager correct to say our previous contracts are worthless?

The company I work for has been taken over recently and we’ve been told they can only guarantee our jobs here for a year. After that we’ll be working for the new firm’s contractors 30 miles away, who only have a five-year contract. Most of us would rather take redundancy. Do we have to move?

My daughter worked at a school, but suffered a stroke last year and still has trouble speaking properly. After six months they said they could no longer keep the job open for her, which has been very upsetting for her. How long do they have to wait before dismissing you?

I have worked for a firm for nearly two years as a fitter on three-month contracts with seven days’ holiday for each period. How long do you have to work for a firm before they take you on permanently?

At the hotel where I work the tips we’ve earned have twice gone missing recently in rather shady circumstances. The police were never called. Since tips and gratuities are viewed as part of our wages, is our employer still obliged to pay them to us?

If you are contracted to work 25 hours a week and work over that time are you entitled to be paid time-and-a-half?

Our service is completely free and we can help you.
