I bought a new house just over 12 months ago. Structural cracks have started to appear in the walls and the foundations are visibly moving. The builders have brought in a consultancy firm, which is monitoring the movement. What’s my position on this?
It would appear that the builders are intending to put matters right at this stage. You won’t know how serious the remedial work will be until the tests are complete. Hopefully the house was built by a reputable firm which isn’t going to disappear overnight, and you are covered by an NHBC warranty. If this isn’t the case you should see a solicitor now to try to get the builder to lodge some form of bond which will guarantee that the repair work gets done.
